Frequently Asked Questions

HomeKeeper is designed for homeowners and property managers who want to stay on top of maintenance, track what they own, and keep records organized.

How do I add a property? On the Home tab, tap the "+" button in the top right corner. Enter your property name, address, and optionally add a photo. Your property will appear as a tile on the home screen.
How do I add assets (appliances, systems)? Navigate to your property, then tap the Assets tab. Tap "+" and choose from the categorized list of common home assets (HVAC, plumbing, kitchen appliances, etc.) or add a custom asset. You can record the make, model, serial number, and warranty dates.
How do maintenance tasks work? Each asset comes with suggested maintenance templates (e.g., "Replace HVAC Filter" every 3 months). You can add these with one tap or create custom tasks. Tasks can be one-time or recurring, and you'll receive reminders when they're due.
How do I complete a task? Tap the circle next to any task to mark it done quickly. For detailed logging (cost, notes, photos), swipe right on the task and tap "Log Details." Completed recurring tasks automatically schedule the next occurrence.
Can I attach documents like warranties and receipts? Yes! You can attach photos, scan documents, or import PDFs to any property or asset. Common types include receipts, warranties, manuals, inspection reports, and insurance documents.
How do I back up my data? Go to More → Backup & Restore → Export. This creates a .homekeeper archive file containing all your data. You can share it via AirDrop, email, or save it to Files. To restore, use the Import option on the same screen.
What's included in the free version? The free version includes 1 property, up to 5 assets with full maintenance templates, unlimited tasks, document attachments, and the export/backup feature. Premium unlocks unlimited properties and unlimited assets.
How do I restore my subscription? Go to More → tap "Upgrade to Premium" → tap "Restore Purchases" at the bottom. This will restore any active subscriptions linked to your Apple ID.
Is my data safe? Yes! All data is stored locally on your device only. We never collect, transmit, or have access to your information. Your backups are always free and never paywalled. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How does CPSC recall checking work? HomeKeeper checks your assets against the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall database. To be checked, each asset must have a brand/make entered. The app covers recalls from January 1, 2000 to present. Adding a model number improves matching accuracy. This feature is for informational purposes only — always verify recalls at cpsc.gov.
Do I need an internet connection? No. The app works completely offline. Internet is only needed for subscription purchases, restoring purchases, CPSC recall checks, and loading map previews for property addresses.
How do I cancel my subscription? Go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device to manage or cancel.
